Description
This exceptional Organic Chinese Matcha is organically cultivated on the renowned Taishan Tea Plantation, located in the north-western region of Zhejiang Province. Following traditional shading techniques similar to those used for high-quality Gyokuro teas, the tea shrubs are carefully shaded prior to harvesting to enhance their chlorophyll content and deepen the flavour profile. Unlike the typically delicate Japanese Matcha, this Chinese variety boasts a fair-coloured, reed-green powder with a robust, full-bodied character that reflects the authentic brightness found in classic green teas.
When whisked, the tea produces a vibrant moss-green colour, releasing a strong and fresh aroma that invigorates the senses. The flavour is bold yet balanced, with a pronounced vegetal brightness complemented by a slight tartness on the finish that lingers pleasantly on the palate. Perfect for traditional tea ceremonies or your daily cup, this Chinese Matcha combines the best of artisanal cultivation with a rich and authentic taste. Whether enjoyed as a pure whisked matcha tea or a latte, it gives you a refreshing, healthy antioxidant boost.

Health Benefits

Matcha is grown under carefully controlled shade conditions, with fields covered for around four weeks before harvest, reducing sunlight by up to 90%. This unique process stimulates the plants to produce high levels of chlorophyll, which not only gives Matcha its vibrant green colour but also increases the concentration of amino acids, most notably L-theanine - a compound known for promoting calm focus and mental clarity.

What truly sets Matcha apart is its extraordinary antioxidant content. According to the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) scale, Matcha contains an impressive 1,573 antioxidant units per gram, compared to just 93 units per gram in blueberries. This makes Matcha one of the most antioxidant-rich natural foods in the world.

Antioxidants are the body’s natural defense system, helping to neutralise free radicals, the unstable molecules caused by pollution, UV radiation, and internal stress which can lead to cell damage, inflammation, ageing, and chronic disease. Regularly consuming antioxidant-rich foods like Matcha supports a strong immune system, healthy skin, and overall cellular health.

Matcha is also rich in Catechins, a specific type of antioxidant unique to green tea. Of these, the most potent is Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a compound shown in studies to help fight inflammation, support heart health, and even inhibit the growth of certain cancer cells.

Additionally, Catechins in Matcha have been linked to:

  • supporting weight management
  • by reducing LDL cholesterol and environmental pollutants
  • enhanced cognitive performance through the synergy of L-theanine and caffeine

With its combination of calming amino acids, clean energy, and potent antioxidants, Matcha is far more than just a tea. It's a daily ritual that supports the body and mind.
