Description

Harvested from the lush tea gardens of Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, this Orange Pekoe is crafted from carefully selected young leaves. Grown primarily in the central highlands, the cool climate and rich soil impart a distinctive character to this tea.

When brewed, it produces a bright, clear coppery liquor with a lively and brisk flavour profile. The taste is clean and refreshing, featuring subtle citrus undertones and a gentle maltiness, balanced by a light floral aroma. The aroma is fresh and invigorating, hinting at sweet honey and mild spice notes.

Ideal for morning or afternoon drinking, Ceylon Orange Pekoe is versatile enough to be enjoyed plain or with a splash of milk or lemon. Its bright character makes it an excellent pick-me-up to start the day or a revitalising afternoon tea.

Health Benefits

All tea originates from the same plant, Camellia Sinensis, but the final product varies in style, taste, and caffeine content depending on how it is processed.

Black tea, which undergoes full oxidation, has a lower concentration of polyphenols compared to green tea, but it has a higher caffeine and tannin content. Despite concerns about tannins, research shows that the levels present in tea do not appear to have any harmful effects on the body. In fact, black tea offers several health benefits, including:

  • Improved heart health
  • Better gut health
  • Enhanced focus

It also contains antioxidants such as theaflavins and thearubigins, which help combat oxidative stress. Also, tea is rich in the amino acid L-theanine, which is known for promoting relaxation and reducing stress and anxiety without causing drowsiness.
