Earl Grey tea is actually named after Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl Grey and British Prime Minister in the 1830s.  It was said that the blend was created after a Chinese diplomat gifted Grey a tea scented with bergamot oil as a token of thanks. Another story suggests it was blended to offset the taste of lime in the water at the Grey family estate. The recipe became popular after Lady Grey served it to guests in London, leading to its commercial production.

Anyone for an Earl Grey Fog? Also known as a London Fog this is a cozy and creamy tea-based drink made with Earl Grey tea, steamed milk, and a drop of vanilla syrup. It originated in Canada and has become a popular café drink. The bold, citrusy flavour of Earl Grey goes beautifully with the sweetness of vanilla and the richness of the milk. It’s typically served hot and can be made with dairy or plant-based milk.

Brewing instructions
  • Use around 3g of tea (1-2 heaped teaspoons) or 1 teabag in 250ml of water
  • Use freshly boiled water
  • Infuse for 4 minutes depending on your preferred strength
