Description

Hailing from the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian Province, China, Lapsang Souchong is one of the world’s most famous traditional smoked teas, steeped in centuries of Chinese tea culture.

This unique black tea is carefully smoke-dried over pinewood fires. This method was developed hundreds of years ago to preserve tea during long journeys. Its distinctive smoky aroma and rich, bright amber liquor with woody and sweet malt notes have made it a timeless favourite.

Lapsang Souchong was one of the first Chinese teas to reach the UK in the 17th and 18th centuries, arriving with early tea traders who prized its preservative smoking method, which helped the tea survive long sea voyages. It quickly became popular in Britain for its bold flavour and became a staple in British tea culture.

Perfect for those who appreciate bold, complex teas with deep roots in history and tradition.

Health Benefits

All tea originates from the same plant, Camellia Sinensis, but the final product varies in style, taste, and caffeine content depending on how it is processed.

Black tea, which undergoes full oxidation, has a lower concentration of polyphenols compared to green tea, but it has a higher caffeine and tannin content. Despite concerns about tannins, research shows that the levels present in tea do not appear to have any harmful effects on the body. In fact, black tea offers several health benefits, including:

  • Improved heart health
  • Better gut health
  • Enhanced focus

It also contains antioxidants such as theaflavins and thearubigins, which help combat oxidative stress. Also, tea is rich in the amino acid L-theanine, which is known for promoting relaxation and reducing stress and anxiety without causing drowsiness.
